Il Ritorno di Mary Poppins è ambientato a Londra durante la Grande Depressione degli anni ‘30, ventiquattro anni dopo gli eventi del film originale. Michael Banks lavora nella stessa banca in cui lavorava suo padre e vive ancora al numero 17 di Viale dei Ciliegi con i suoi tre figli Annabel, Georgie e John e la domestica Ellen. Quando la famiglia subisce una perdita personale, Mary Poppins ritorna magicamente nella vita dei Banks e, con l’aiuto di Jack, li aiuta a ritrovare la gioia di vivere e il senso della meraviglia.
