Oregon 1943. Quasi tutti i giovani sono in guerra e le ragazze cercano di sostituirli in alcuni ruoli indispensabili come per esempio il baseball. Dottie e Kit, sorelle, organizzano una squadra e, contro ogni previsione, la faccenda funziona. Ad allenare c'è un certo Jimmy, preparato ma chiuso e pieno di problemi. Fra una partita e l'altra, un traguardo dopo l'altro, le ragazze vivono la loro vita, si fanno esperienze e si realizzano. Quella stagione rimarrà per tutti indimenticabile. Dopo molti anni il gruppetto si ritrova, alcuni sono nonni, altri non ci sono più. È bello e commovente ricordare quei tempi.
