I ragazzini del Loser Club hanno sconfitto ma non eliminato il malefico Pennywise, entità che si manifesta ogni 27 anni nella cittadina di Derry con le fattezze di clown e rapisce e uccide bambini. Sono dunque destinati a un nuovo confronto con lui 27 anni dopo e si passa così dal 1989 al 2016. I protagonisti sono cresciuti, ma quasi tutti loro hanno lasciato la cittadina e hanno dimenticato l'orrore in cui si erano imbattuti e persino molti dettagli della loro amicizia. Solo Mike è rimasto e solo lui ricorda e può prepararli a una nuova e definitiva battaglia.
