In un regno lontano tutti desiderano qualcosa che cambi la loro vita per sempre: Cenerentola sogna il ballo a corte, Jack una mucca che dia latte, Baker e consorte un bambino da allevare.Rassegnati a giorni sempre uguali, sarà la magia a esaudirli. Incarnata negli stracci di una vecchia strega astiosa, che ha perso da troppo tempo la bellezza dello spirito e del sembiante, la magia interviene a muovere e a cambiare i destini ordinari dei desideranti. Per ottenere quello che ha perduto la strega ha bisogno di una scarpetta d'oro, un capello color del grano, un mantello rosso e una mucca bianca. In cambio di un figlio i Baker,che scoprono la 'sterilità' opera di un sortilegio della strega, si mettono a caccia dei preziosi oggetti e infilano la strada del bosco, dove incroceranno le storie di Cenerentola in fuga dal principe,di Raperonzolo che vorrebbe fuggire col suo principe,di Cappuccetto Rosso ingollato dal lupo e di Jack arrampicato su un enorme pianta di fagioli.
