Buffy l'ammazzavampiri

Arriva nella piccola cittadina di Sunnydale Buffy Summers, una giovane ragazza appena trasferitasi con la madre da Los Angeles, città da cui aveva preferito andarsene dopo l'espulsione dalla scuola che lì frequentava, a causa dell'incendio che Buffy appiccò nella palestra per eliminare dei vampiri. La ragazza, infatti, è la prescelta per il ruolo di Cacciatrice, ovvero colei che unica nella sua generazione, ha il dovere di combattere, con la sua straordinaria forza, i demoni che cercano di riscattarsi e riportare la loro supremazia nel mondo. Si accorge ben presto di non essersi affatto lasciata i problemi alle spalle, perché già il primo giorno delle superiori al Sunnydale High, fa la conoscenza di Rupert Giles, il suo Osservatore, che utilizza il ruolo di bibliotecario del liceo come copertura. A questo punto, per Buffy ricomincia la lotta contro il male, che ha la sua massima concentrazione proprio sotto le fondamenta della scuola, dove si trova la terrificante Bocca dell'Inferno, un portale che sprigionerebbe tutto il male demoniaco sulla Terra e che costituisce l'obiettivo del tanto anziano quanto potente vampiro della zona, chiamato Il Maestro. All'interno della scuola, Buffy stringe una forte amicizia con due compagni, Willow Rosenberg e Xander Harris, tra i pochi a sapere delle doti segrete della Cacciatrice e che l'aiuteranno nell'annientamento del terribile nemico. Di rilievo è anche la controversa relazione che Buffy instaura con Angel, un vampiro maledetto con la sua stessa anima, afflitto infatti dal rimpianto delle numerose torture e uccisioni, perpetrate ai danni delle sue vittime. Fa da sfondo alla serie l'esilarante personalità di Cordelia Chase, la ragazza più popolare del liceo, particolarmente snob e infastidita dallo strano comportamento della compagna Buffy.
