Eloise, ventenne cresciuta con la nonna dopo il suicidio della madre, arriva a Londra con il sogno di diventare stilista. Ha il mito della Swingin' London e della musica anni '60, che ascolta continuamente su vecchi 33 giri portatili. Dopo un'infelice esperienza nello studentato della scuola di moda in cui è stata ammessa, si trasferisce in un appartamento di Soho affittato da un'anziana signora. Qui, durante lunghe notti agitate, Eloise sogna di tornare nel passato, nella Londra che ama di più, dove incontra Sandie, un'aspirante cantante che vive il glamour di una città colorata ed esaltante. Poco alla volta, però, Eloise confonde la propria personalità con quella di Sandie e ne scopre la vita in realtà miserabile, scivolando tra realtà e incubo in un'esperienza spaventosa.
