Prima di essere il Professor X e Magneto, Xavier e Erik sono stati due ragazzi e due grandi amici. Fianco a fianco hanno militato per la CIA, andando alla ricerca dei mutanti in tutto il mondo, per invitarli a non vergognarsi di sé e a unirsi a loro. Ma mentre Xavier sogna da sempre l'integrazione pacifica nella società degli umani, Erik si sente minacciato dalla razza umana e pensa a un esercito di mutanti e a una guerra inevitabile. Da bambino, ha visto sua madre venire uccisa sotto i suoi occhi, in un campo di concentramento, dall'infernale Sebastian Shaw e sono state proprio la rabbia e il dolore a portare alla luce i suoi poteri. Adulto, con l'aiuto di Xavier, Raven e dei giovani mutanti che hanno reclutato, si mette sulle tracce di Shaw e lo trova in Russia, intento a costringere il Cremlino a piazzare dei missili nucleari a Cuba per scatenare la terza guerra mondiale.
