Hutch Mansell, padre e marito sottostimato e trascurato, è abituato a non reagire a nessuna umiliazione. Quando una notte due ladri irrompono nella sua abitazione in periferia, rifiuta di difendere se stesso o la sua famiglia, sperando di prevenire violenze maggiori. Il figlio adolescente Blake è deluso dal suo comportamento e la moglie Becca comincia ad allontanarsi maggiormente da lui. All'indomani dell'accaduto, la rabbia che Hutch cova esplode spingendolo a manifestare tutta la violenza di cui è capace. Si ritroverà allora a dover difendere come meglio può la sua famiglia da un pericoloso avversario e ad assicurarsi di non essere mai più sottovalutato da nessuno.
