David Mann, tranquillo commesso viaggiatore, sta compiendo il suo solito giro in macchina quando viene invitato al sorpasso da un grosso camion che lo precede. Subito dopo, l'autocarro lo sorpassa a sua volta: è l'inizio di una allucinante sfida stradale. David si accorge ben presto che il misterioso autista, il cui volto non si riesce mai a scorgere, ha intenzioni omicide nei suoi confronti. Dopo un interminabile duello, il protagonista riesce ad attirare l'avversario in un tranello e a liberarsene definitivamente.
