In tarda notte, una limousine percorre Mulholland Drive (una strada che attraversa le colline attorno a Los Angeles, California); al suo interno c'è una donna dai capelli scuri (interpretata da Laura Elena Harring) e due uomini; improvvisamente, l'auto si ferma ed uno dei due uomini punta una pistola contro la donna; subito dopo, però, dei pirati della strada si schiantano contro la limousine.
