L'azione si svolge nell'anno 1836, in una vecchia missione fortificata del Texas: Alamo. Nel forte si trovano dei volontari al comando di Jim Bowie e del colonnello W.B. Travis, ed un gruppo di uomini venuti dal lontano Tennessee al comando di David Crockett. Per ben tre giorni, 185 uomini lottano disperatamente contro un'armata messicana di 7000 uomini, comandata dal generale Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana. Tutti vengono uccisi. Ma il loro sacrificio eroico non sarà vano. Alcuni giorni più tardi, il generale Sam Houston potrà, grazie alla resistenza di forte Alamo, vincere l'armata di Santa Ana, e ridare l'indipendenza al Texas.
