Attenti, ragazzi: un serial killer si aggira in mezzo a voi!Sidney si trova a dover affrontare qualcosa che supera le sue crisi adolescenziali. Sua madre infatti è stata assassinata un anno prima, il padre è sempre assente per lavoro e il suo ragazzo Billy la sta spingendo a fuggire di casa. Ci si mette anche un serial killer che ha iniziato a terrorizzare la città usando la sua passione per i film dell'orrore. Avvalendosi di tutte le sue conoscenze in materia, gioca con le sue vittime e riesce a sviare la polizia. Il film sta tra lo scherzo e l'esercitazione sulla paura: un gioco di ragazzi che si rivela subito una vera, sanguinosa corsa all'incubo. L'ironia stempera la tensione, ma il gran finale notturno è trascinante. Film "teorico" che ha rilanciato Craven e generato vari seguiti apocrifi e non. Nella parte del preside c'è Harry "Fonzie" Winkler.
