1Stagione 1Il regista William Asher voleva realizzare una serie televisiva che avesse come protagonista sua moglie, la giovane attrice Elizabeth Montgomery, e propose al produttore Sol Saks un soggetto basato su una donna che, dopo avere sposato un semplice impiegato, gli rivela di essere la figlia di uno degli uomini più ricchi del mondo. Dal canto suo, Sol Saks stava invece perfezionando un suo progetto dal titolo "The Witches of Wesport" perché gli piaceva l'idea di portare la magia nel ventesimo secolo. Dopo aver letto le prime bozze del lavoro del produttore, William Asher decise di eliminare la cupa atmosfera delineata da Saks e di integrarla con la sua idea originale: invece di rivelare al marito di essere un'ereditiera, la donna sarebbe stata niente meno che una strega.196436D
2Stagione 2La seconda stagione segna l'arrivo di alcuni nuovi personaggi destinati a divenire ricorrenti nella serie. Prima fra tutti la piccola Tabatha, la figlia primogenita degli Stephens, di cui Samantha annuncia di essere incinta sin dal primo episodio. Incontreremo poi lo zio Arthur, fratello burlone di Endora, i cui scherzi di dubbio gusto ci accompagneranno lungo tutte le stagioni a venire, e Serena, la cugina di Samantha. Le due si somigliano come gocce d'acqua, ma solo nel fisico, perché hanno caratteri completamente diversi e modi opposti di vivere la vita e la stregoneria.196538D
3Stagione 3La terza stagione segna diversi cambiamenti. Il più evidente è certamente il passaggio al colore, che consentì a quella fortunata fetta di pubblico americano che aveva già installato nel proprio salotto un costoso apparecchio TV a colori, di apprezzare appieno gli sgargianti accostamenti di tinte adottati da Endora.196633D
4Stagione 4Poche le novità della quarta stagione, una fra le più brillanti di tutta la serie. Il ruolo di Frank Stephens, il padre di Darrin, passa da Robert F.Simon a Roy Roberts. Torna in due episodi Sheila Sommers, l'ex fidanzata snob di Darrin che avevamo conosciuto nell'episodio pilota. Marion Lorne continua a deliziarci nelle vesti di zia Clara, ma sarà purtroppo per l'ultima volta. L'incantevole attrice lasciò questo mondo mentre gli ultimi episodi della stagione erano ancora in onda.196733D
5Stagione 5Verso il termine di questa stagione, Dick York inizierà a comparire solo sporadicamente e per questo Darrin Stephens sarà molto spesso in viaggio di lavoro. Persino la notizia che sta per diventare padre per la seconda volta gli verrà comunicata telefonicamente da Samantha. L'attore che ha vestito fin qui magistralmente i panni di Darrin soffriva infatti di lancinanti dolori alla schiena che finirono per costringerlo a lasciare la serie. Dalla sesta stagione verrà sostituito dal pur bravo Dick Sargent, anche se la pesante eredità ricevuta dal suo predecessore non gli consentirà di ottenere gli stessi consensi da parte del pubblico.196830D
6Stagione 6La novità più importante della sesta stagione è sicuramente il cambio della guardia fra Dick York e Dick Sargent nel ruolo di Darrin. Il nuovo attore si studiò così bene la straordinaria mimica del collega che lo aveva preceduto che, per un certo periodo, molti telespettatori americani non si accorsero neppure della sostituzione. Nelle vesti di Samantha, Elizabeth Montgomery era ormai divenuta così popolare da indurre la produzione a inserire il suo nome nella sigla di testa prima ancora del titolo della serie. Inoltre una voce fuori campo annunciava: «Elizabeth Montgomery in... Bewitched». Anche il nome di David White (Larry) passa meritatamente nei titoli di testa. Nella versione italiana la sigla è rimasta sempre la stessa, salvo la grossolana sostituzione del nome di Dick York con quello di Dick Sargent.196930D
7Stagione 7Dopo aver vissuto con la sesta stagione un periodo di stanchezza e monotonia, la serie ritrova in questa stagione vivacità e originalità. E si comincia alla grande, con un gruppo di otto brillanti episodi ambientati a Salem, la città delle streghe per antonomasia. Con questa stagione (complice un incendio, che distrusse gran parte del set a Hollywood), casa Stephens, sempre al 1164 di Morning Glory Circle, è stata rinnovata nell'arredamento e nella struttura. La cucina è stata ampliata e vi è stata installata una scala di servizio che conduce al piano superiore. Anche gli uffici della McMann & Tate presentano diversi cambiamenti.197028D
8Stagione 8Come la precedente, anche l'ultima stagione della serie si apre con un viaggio che consente agli autori di sviluppare nuove idee. Questa volta gli Stephens trascorrono un periodo di vacanza in Europa, visitando Londra, Parigi, Pisa, Roma, Inverness e quindi ancora Londra. Quest'ultima stagione, pur presentando molti episodi brillanti, è tutto sommato più triste delle precedenti, soprattutto perché diversi personaggi che ruotavano intorno alla famiglia Stephens non compaiono più. Largo spazio avranno Tabatha, ormai grandicella, Serena ed Esmeralda.197126D
