Ritenuto dai suoi stessi capi ormai morto in una precedente azione, James Bond si ripresenta nel suo ufficio, pronto a riprendere la sua rischiosa attività. L'occasione si presenta ben presto: in una piccola isola del Giappone, l'organizzazione dello "Spectre", ben mimetizzata all'interno di un vulcano spento, sta attuando il piano che mira a provocare la III guerra mondiale.
