Rick Deckard è un ex poliziotto del L.A.P.D. (Los Angeles Police Department) richiamato forzatamente in servizio quando un gruppo di sofisticati androidi Nexus 6 fugge dalle colonie Extra-Mondo e torna clandestinamente sulla Terra. Quello che essi cercano è il loro costruttore, "colpevole" di averli dotati di un aspetto umano e capacità fisiche superiori, ma di una vita molto breve. La caccia di Deckard sarà violenta e serrata, resa più complessa dalla presenza di Rachael, un particolarissimo tipo sperimentale di replicante, femminile quanto e forse più di una donna autentica. Non senza fatica e sofferenza, i Nexus 6 saranno " ritirati" uno dopo l'altro fino allo scontro finale tra il poliziotto e l'elemento alfa del gruppo, l'angelico demone Roy Batty.
