Nell'anno 2089 due scienziati portano a compimento le ricerche di una vita scoprendo che alcuni artefatti, ritrovati in diversi punti della Terra e tutti risalenti a migliaia di anni prima, riportano la medesima immagine di creature giganti che indicano un determinato pianeta. Ricostruito quale sia il pianeta in questione e trovati i fondi da un miliardario morente, i due si imbarcano assieme a un equipaggio misto di scienziati e piloti verso quel pianeta per andare a scoprire quel che ritengono essere l'origine della vita sulla Terra. Lì troveranno i resti di una civiltà aliena assieme a ciò che l'ha quasi estinta.
